Lake Havasu City, AZ —
An officer-involved shooting is under investigation in Lake Havasu City following a domestic violence call that escalated into a police pursuit Thursday evening, September 25.

According to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office, Lake Havasu City Police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of Rolling Hills Drive around 6:20 p.m. for a reported domestic violence incident. Upon arrival, officers observed the suspect—allegedly intoxicated—driving away from the scene.

Officers later located the suspect’s vehicle in the area of Highway 95 and Havasu Riviera Parkway and attempted a traffic stop. The driver initially slowed but then accelerated, prompting a police pursuit.

The chase ended when the suspect’s vehicle crashed into an embankment near Copper Canyon Way and The Ridges Way after failing to negotiate a turn. The suspect exited the vehicle and reportedly brandished a firearm. An officer then discharged his weapon, striking the suspect.

The individual was taken into custody and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. He has been identified as Maurice Trudell, 60, of Bullhead City.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shooting incidents. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, in accordance with policy requiring an external agency to review such cases.

The investigation remains ongoing. No additional details have been released at this time.
