Bullhead City police have identified a suspected burglar who was shot by officers late on Valentine’s Day in Bullhead City.
Authorities say Jacob Brannan, 35, was shot by police around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 14 after officers responded to a report of a man armed with a knife in a neighborhood on Camino Del Rio Drive. A caller told dispatch they had been flagged down by a man who claimed he had just burglarized a home.
Police located Brannan, a Bullhead City resident, but he fled on foot. During the pursuit, officers say Brannan—still holding the knife—moved toward them, at which point an officer fired his weapon, striking him.
Brannan was transported to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment. After being released, he was taken into custody by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on three counts of aggravated assault on a police officer. He is expected to be extradited back to Arizona.
The officer who fired the shot was identified as Officer Ryu Serrano, who has been with the department for approximately eight months. No officers were injured during the incident.
The investigation is being handled by the Lake Havasu City Police Department, per standard protocol for officer-involved shootings. Authorities say the case remains under investigation.
