BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. – The suspect wanted in connection with a shooting earlier this year has been taken into custody.
According to police, 23-year-old Gilberto “Gil” Mendez III was arrested this morning (March 5, 2026) by the Arizona Department of Public Safety during a traffic stop near Lake Havasu City. Mendez had been wanted on a temporary felony warrant for Attempted Homicide following a shooting in Bullhead City.
The investigation began on February 12, 2026, at about 5:20 a.m., when officers with the Bullhead City Police Department responded to a report of a weapons offense in the 700 block of River Gardens Drive.
When officers arrived, they rendered medical aid to a 33-year-old male who had been shot in both legs and suffered a graze wound to his arm.
Investigators say two masked, armed males entered the home, and an altercation occurred related to previous interactions between the individuals. During the confrontation, shots were fired, and the suspects fled the scene before police arrived.
The victim was transported to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center (WARMC) and was reported to be in stable condition.
Police say several other people were inside the home during the shooting, including four children, but no one else was injured.
Through further investigation, detectives identified Gilberto “Gil” Mendez III as the suspected shooter. Authorities previously stated Mendez was known to reside in both Bullhead City, AZ and Laughlin, NV, and was believed to be responsible for other recent shootings in the Bullhead City area.
He is now in custody as the investigation continues.
