OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING- LAKE HAVASU CITY
On Sunday (5/18), Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a residence in the 1600 block of
S. Smoketree Ave. in Lake Havasu City to follow up with a Domestic Violence incident that had occurred in
Topock the night prior. The suspect in the domestic violence incident had been identified as Case Taylor
Chrouser, 38 of Topock. Chrouser was wanted for several felony charges, to include Aggravated Assault by
Domestic Violence, Theft of a Firearm, and Prohibited Possessor.
After confirming Chrouser to be at the residence, SWAT teams with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and
Lake Havasu City Police Department responded due to Chrouser’s history and current charges.
Negotiations were attempted with no response from inside the residence. Chrouser was seen looking out the
window of the residence several times. After failed negotiation attempts, gas was deployed into the
residence in an attempt to get Chrouser to come outside without incident.
After several hours, the SWAT team entered the residence, where Chrouser was believed to be barricaded
in a bathroom. Additional commands were given as well as additional gas deployed, still with no response.
SWAT was able to place a camera into the bathroom, at which time Chrouser was observed inside pointing
a handgun towards the door.
SWAT members gave verbal commands and after a short time, Chrouser opened the door and began firing
at SWAT personnel. Three SWAT members with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office returned fire, striking
Chrouser. Medical personnel were summonsed and began life saving measures, however, Chrouser
succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene.
No law enforcement personnel were injured during this incident. The investigation into the Officer Involved
Shooting is being conducted by the Kingman Police Department, which is standard procedure. The officers
involved have been placed on paid administrative leave. Any follow up questions should be forwarded to
KPD Deputy Chief Joel Freed at jfreed@cityofkingman.gov . This investigation is ongoing.
Summonsed is incorrect here in that they were not given a summons (as from a court), they were summoned as to be called to a place. Summoned is the past participle of the act of summoning. Summons is not a noun in this usage so summonsed would be incorrect. Also – Good job Tactical, “You’re either SWAT or you’re NOT,” and this guy wasn’t!
