BULLHEAD CITY, Ariz. – July 11, 2025 – Bullhead City Police Detectives arrested Matthew Asher John Cook, 27, on felony charges of child abuse and endangerment.
On July 1, police received an anonymous letter of allegations of child abuse and neglect involving two young girls, ages 4 and 8. On July 2, a packet was dropped off containing photos of bruising and written allegations describing prolonged punitive measures, food deprivation and child neglect. The children’s mother reportedly would not allow the Department of Child Safety (DCS) in the home to conduct a welfare check. The mother and boyfriend, Matthew Cook, also refused to speak with detectives or the allow a welfare check on the children.
Detectives interviewed other family members and executed a search warrant into the apartment, in the 1500 block of Paseo Grande, on July 10. A loaded weapon was found accessible to the children within the residence. Detectives determined that Matthew Cook was the primary caregiver and inflicted physical injury on the children while in his care.
The case will be reviewed by the Mohave County Attorney’s Office for possible charges against the mother. The children were placed into the custody of DCS.
Cook was booked into the Mohave County Jail in Kingman.
