On Monday (5/19) at approximately 2:59 PM, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a remote property approximately 12 miles north of White Hills in reference to a male subject that had been shot. The suspect of the shooting was reportedly still on scene. The Arizona Department of Public Safety, Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter, and National Park Service also responded to assist.
Upon arrival, Richard Stephen Hansen (57 of White Hills) was immediately identified as the suspect and taken into custody. A male subject, later identified as Christopher Gene Jetton (52 of White Hills), was found inside a trailer on the property with a gunshot wound to his chest. Medical personnel aboard the Arizona Department of Public Safety helicopter landed on scene to provide medical aid, however Jetton had succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased on scene.
Detectives with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed that Hansen and Jetton had lived on the property with an additional person for the past five years. Hansen and Jetton had gotten into a verbal altercation over an unknown subject coming onto the property that Jetton believed was trying to steal from them. During the argument, Jetton allegedly punched Hansen. The two continued to argue, at which time Hansen went into his trailer and grabbed a handgun. The argument continued, at which time Hansen shot Jetton.
Hansen was transported to the Mohave County Adult Detention Facility in Kingman without incident where he was booked for 2nd Degree Murder. This investigation is ongoing.
